What weather patterns can I expect when I visit?
When it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere it is winter here in New Zealand. Temperatures at Kaiwarua Station can be as high as 30 degrees Celsius in the summer (January/February) to minus 5 degrees Celsius and snow in the winter months (May/August) can be expected. The weather in NZ can change very quickly, so please come prepared with warm good quality outdoor clothing.
What special licenses do I need?
No special licenses are required when you visit to hunt big game in New Zealand. However a fishing license and game bird license is required in season. We will obtain all of these for you, and the cost is included in your package.
Firearms
Many visitors prefer to use their own guns. We are however able to provide a range of fire arms for our clients. There is no problem bring conventional firearms into New Zealand. Hand guns are not permitted. We recommend guns that fire a minimum 150 grain bullet. Popular Calabres are 30/06, 7mm Mag, 300 win Mag. Your rifle should have a quality variable power scope and include a soft carry case. Pack your rifle and ammunition separately and report to the airport police upon your arrival. Completing the paperwork prior to arrival will speed things up when you go through customs. A permit is required and costs around $25.
