Kaiwarua Station - Walk the NZ Backcountry
Experience the beauty of the NZ backcountry. Panoramic views of mountain ranges, crossed by crystal clear high country streams and the sound of silence.
Well formed tracks lead you around this high country station. A variety of accommodation options are available. This trek is a 3 nights / two day eco walking experience. A reasonable good level of fitness, the track is not suitable for young children.
The circuit
The first nights accommodation is either in the deluxe package, staying in the Lodge or as a self catered option in the station’s cosy shearer’s quarters. Check in by 6.00pm at Kaiwarua Station for a walk briefing before you start on your walk the next morning.
First days walk. A well formed track takes you from the Kaiwarua homestead up an accenting ridgeline. From the ridgeline you descend steadily to the comfort of the Musterer’s Hut – your second night’s accommodation. After your first day walk you can chill out and unwind or bathe by the river under the stars. Coloured arrows mark the track for you to follow as this is not a guided walk. (approximately 5 hours )depending on fitness.
Second Days walk. You will walk over some truly amazing high country tussock land. Watch out for wallabies and native falcons, swallows, ducks, the list is endless, before dropping down to the river then back to your first night’s accommodation before settling in for the night.

To make your hiking experience more enjoyable, Kaiwarua Station will transport your packs
out to Musterer’s Hut for a small additional charge.
